Tom Welling is bringing in $175,000 per episode

drama-pay-per-episodeSmallvilleTalk.com just posted an interesting graphic; Tom Welling is earning roughly $175,000 per episode of Smallville.  That’s over $4,000,000 per season — wow!

Maybe that’ll convince him to come back for another season…

New trailer for Season 9

We’re still not quite sure how dark season 9 will be, but here’s a new trailer for you check out.  Enjoy!

Next season will be “darker”, but not too dark

According to co-show runner Brian Peterson (via Airlock Alpha), the upcoming season of Smallville is going to be dark — but don’t be alarmed.

News had come out recently that season 9 would be “Superman’s darkest hour”, but Peterson has now clarified that a bit:

“We might’ve misled people a little bit with that,” co-show runner Brian Peterson explained. “Clark has some very dark decisions to make and he starts the season in a very dark place, but the season itself won’t be dark.”

Look for the first episode of season 9 on The CW on September 25.

Supergirl will be back for just one episode in Season 8

As we mentioned earlier this year, Laura Vandervoort (as “Supergirl”) is only coming back for a single episode.  Given the vast cast changes, this really hurts the show.

As TV Squad pointed out, any talk of a “Supergirl” spinoff died a few years ago, that’s apparently not going to happen.

Another villain coming to Smallville for Season 8

Continuing to fill the void left by Lex Luthor’s departure, another villain has been added for Season 8.  This time it is Maxima, who will be played by Charlotte Sullivan.

This goes with the additions of Tess Mercer (new owner of the Luthor estate) and Doomsday (aka Davis Bloome).  How will this all work together?  We’ll find out in a few short weeks.

Some season 8 spoilers

Superhero Profiles has just revealed a few spoilers for season 8.  According to Executive Producer Brian Peterson, Clark won’t wear tights, but he just might fly this season.  Also, there is a chance of a “phone booth moment” with Lois Lane in the near future.

It seems that his day-to-day role will become more like the adult version of Clark Kent.  He’ll work as a reporter for the Daily Planet alongside Lois Lane.  It would seem that he’ll need to start creating his double-identity (glasses?), but that may or may not happen this season.

Justin Hartley returning as a series regular

Justin Hartley, known on the show as both Oliver Queen and the “Green Arrow”, will be back as a regular character in season 8.

Given the departures of Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk, this is certainly good news for Smallville fans.

A few more details about the season 7 DVD

Superhero Profiles has brought us a few more details about the season 7 DVD, coming September 9.  In particular, they list some of the extra features included with the DVD, such as:

  • A Supergirl documentary
  • “Jimmy on Jimmy” featurette
  • Smallville Legends Mobisodes Gallery
  • A comic book
  • Unaired scenes
  • Cast & creator commentaries

Sounds like it’ll be a nice set!  For $60-80, I would hope so. :)

Who will Clark’s next villain be?

BuddyTV has a nice article that looks at the problem of villains in Smallville.  Now that Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) is leaving the show, there is a big opening for the role of “primary villain”.

There is some talk of having Doomsday fill that gap, but that seems unlikely.  There are also reports that a “sexy female villain” will arrive this season.  Maybe the two of them combined could work out well.

Either way, it seems likely that we’ll miss Lex more than we realize…

Smallville Season 7 on DVD and Blu-ray September 9th

According to TVShowsOnDVD, the DVD and Blu-ray packages of Smallville’s recently completely seventh season will be available on September 9. Both sets will include all 20 episodes, including the Supergirl-focused “mobisodes”.

The six-disc DVD set will sell for $59.98, while the three-disc Blu-ray set will sell for $79.98.
